Charity Fun Run Report

Posted by Dave

The fun run, held on Saturday 12th May 2012, was a great success! After all the rain of the previous few weeks, the Friday was a dry day and Saturday morning started with glorious sunshine. By about 10:00 a.m. we had 10 marshalls in place around the course and 29 runners lined up ready to start. Shortly after 10:00 the town crier, Mr Jo David, announced the start with a loud call! The route, around the playing field and along the bridleway to Sharnford and back, was reasonably dry (with a few muddy patches) and didn’t cause any problems. Feedback from runners suggested that they appreciated encouragement from the marshalls as they went past. At the half way desk in Sharnford they were all given a smiley face sticker and a drink of water, if needed. The first runner back arrived 17 minutes after the start, which seemed incredibly fast for a 4.5km run! Then the rest gradually arrived, until eventually all were safely back.
In the background, Christine and Claire were providing tea, coffee, squash, biscuits and toast for whoever wanted it; runners, helpers or spectators.
It was a genuinely good fun, friendly event with people of all ages involved. We received many positive comments from the runners (or walkers), and the consensus was that we should definitely do this again.
I would like to thank Jo David, the town crier; Jonathon Haw and the Sapcote and Stoney Stanton branch of “Community First Responders” who attended as first aiders (but thankfully were not called upon); our church members and friends who acted as marshalls; Christine and Claire for the refreshments and, of course, everyone who took part.

The registration fees covered all administration costs.  With donations and sponsorship money, we have made £246 for the two charities supported, Tear Fund and Cancer Research UK, which is excellent. If anyone has any more sponsorship money to come in, please contact me.
